    White Lake, Wisconsin

    The name "White" was given to the lake by the Indians who hunted and fished in the area many years ago. It was so named because of the white sand and marl in the lake bottom. In 1876, pioneer Isaac Farrow attempted to drain White Lake and make a hay meadow out of the level bottom. He failed in this venture because he didn't realize the depth of the lake and the fact that it was fed by springs.[7]

    White Lake is located at 45°9′24″N 88°45′56″W / 45.15667°N 88.76556°W / 45.15667; -88.76556 (45.156596, -88.765597),[10] in the eastern part of Langlade County about four miles west of the Wolf River and Wisconsin Highway 55. It is surrounded by the Town of Wolf River.

    Withee, Wisconsin

    Withee is a village in Clark County in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. The population was 487 at the 2010 census. The village is located mostly within the Town of Hixon, with a small portion extending south into the Town of Longwood.

    Whitehall was started in 1860 or 1861, in an area later known as Old Whitehall about a mile from the center of the current city, by Ole Knudtson. He came to Whitehall June 25, 1860, and opened a hotel and blacksmith shop.     The name “Wonewoc” is of Indigenous American origin, probably meaning "howling hills".     Whitewater, Wisconsin

    Whitewater is a city in Walworth (mostly) and Jefferson counties in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. Most of them arrived as a result of the completion of the Erie Canal. When they arrived in what is now Whitewater, then nothing but dense virgin forest and wild prairie, the New Englanders laid out farms, constructed roads, erected government buildings and established post routes. They brought with them many of their Yankee New England values, such as staunch support for abolitionism and a passion for education, establishing many schools as well. They were mostly members of the Congregationalist Church though some were Episcopalian. Due to the second Great Awakening some of them had converted to Methodism before moving to what is now Whitewater.     Woodland is a town in Sauk County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 783 at the 2000 census. The unincorporated community of Valton is located in the town. The town was named from the adjacent dense forests.[3]
