Youngsville, North Carolina

Youngsville is located at 36°1′31″N 78°28′38″W / 36.02528°N 78.47722°W / 36.02528; -78.47722 (36.025311, -78.477090),[8] near Raleigh, North Carolina. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 1.6 square miles (4.1 km²), all of it land.

As of the census[3] of 2010, there were 1,157 people, 522 households, and 294 families residing in the town. The population density was 723.1 people per square mile (282.2/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 69.3% White, 25.1% African American, 0.3% Native American, 0.8% Asian, 0.0% Pacific Islander, 2.9% from other races, and 1.6% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 4.8% of the population.

There were 522 households out of which 28.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 35.8% were married couples living together, 15.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 43.7% were non-families. 35.1% of all households were made up of individuals and 7.0% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.22 and the average family size was 2.89.

Zebulon, North Carolina

Zebulon is the easternmost town in Wake County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 4,433 at the 2010 census.[5] Zebulon is part of the Research Triangle metropolitan region. Five County Stadium, home to the Carolina Mudcats minor league baseball team, is located in the town.

In 1906 the Raleigh and Pamlico Sound Railroad Company decided to bring the railroad through the Whitley and Horton family farms in eastern Wake County. Edgar B. Barbee and Falconer B. Arendell organized the Zebulon Company for development that same year. The company received its charter on February 15, 1906. Shortly thereafter, they began to divide up their 49 acres (20 ha) into lots, blocks, streets and avenues. On February 16, 1907, the town was officially recognized as Zebulon, North Carolina. The town was named after Zebulon Baird Vance, the Governor of North Carolina during the American Civil War. The first election was held in May 1907, and the first elected mayor was Thomas J. Horton.

In 1997 Zebulon annexed the neighboring community of Wakefield, increasing the total area inside the corporate limits to 2,115 acres (8.56 km2) and the population to 3,908. The population had grown to 4,433 by 2010.[5]

Zionville, North Carolina

Zionville in an unincorporated community located in Watauga County, North Carolina, United States. The community lies at the North Carolina/Tennessee state line, between Boone and Mountain City, along Old US Highway 421.

Zionville is the location where the Old Buffalo Trail and Daniel Boone's Trail intersect before reaching Trade, Tennessee, just across the border. In 1836, the Zionville Baptist Church was established.[2] In 1866, Tom Dula stopped at the home of Colonel James Grayson and worked at his farm for a few days; soon after, authorities from Wilkes County arrived to arrest him for the murder of Laura Foster. He was finally found west of Mountain City and was sent back for trial.[3]

In 1921, NC 60 was established, following Daniel Boone's Trail from Zionville to Boone; the highway then continued east to Castle Hayne (near Wilmington). From 1930-'32, the route overlapped with US 321, it was soon replaced in 1932 by US 421. In late 1934, NC 60 was decommissioned. In 1962 or 1963, US 421 was moved east to its current alignment, bypassing Zionville.[4][5]

Oxygen sensor

An oxygen sensor (or lambda sensor, where lambda refers to air–fuel equivalence ratio, usually denoted by λ) is an electronic device that measures the proportion of oxygen (O2) in the gas or liquid being analysed.

It was developed by Robert Bosch GmbH during the late 1960s under the supervision of Dr. Günter Bauman. The original sensing element is made with a thimble-shaped zirconia ceramic coated on both the exhaust and reference sides with a thin layer of platinum and comes in both heated and unheated forms. The planar-style sensor entered the market in 1990 and significantly reduced the mass of the ceramic sensing element, as well as incorporating the heater within the ceramic structure.[1] This resulted in a sensor that started sooner and responded faster.

The most common application is to measure the exhaust-gas concentration of oxygen for internal combustion engines in automobiles and other vehicles in order to calculate and, if required, dynamically adjust the air-fuel ratio so that catalytic converters can work optimally, and also determine whether the converter is performing properly or not. Divers also use a similar device to measure the partial pressure of oxygen in their breathing gas.

Winterville, North Carolina

As of 2010, there were 10,791 people, 1,848 households, and 1,371 families residing in the town. The population density was 1,954.1 people per square mile (755.0/km²). There were 1,937 housing units at an average density of 790.0 per square mile (305.3/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 59.24% White, 38.36% African American, 0.35% Native American, 0.81% Asian, 0.10% Pacific Islander, 0.40% from other races, and 0.73% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.02% of the population.

There were 1,848 households out of which 38.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 53.6% were married couples living together, 17.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 25.8% were non-families. 22.6% of all households were made up of individuals and 7.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.57 and the average family size was 3.01.

In the town, the population was spread out with 28.0% under the age of 18, 7.9% from 18 to 24, 34.3% from 25 to 44, 19.7% from 45 to 64, and 10.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 33 years. For every 100 females, there were 84.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 79.6 males.

Winton, North Carolina

Winton is a town and the county seat of Hertford County[4], North Carolina, United States. It is governed by the Town Council which consists of a Mayor and five Council members. The population was 769 at the 2010 census.

As of the census[2] of 2000, there were 956 people, 373 households, and 252 families residing in the town. The population density was 1,180.6 people per square mile (455.7/km²). There were 385 housing units at an average density of 475.4 per square mile (183.5/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 27.62% White, 67.99% African American, 2.41% Native American, 0.63% Asian, 0.84% from other races, and 0.52% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.78% of the population.

There were 373 households out of which 31.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 34.9% were married couples living together, 29.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 32.2% were non-families. 28.7% of all households were made up of individuals and 11.5% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.37 and the average family size was 2.91.

Wise, North Carolina

As of the census[2] of 2000, there were 833 people, 328 households, and 211 families residing in the town. The population density was 644.6 people per square mile (249.3/km²). There were 356 housing units at an average density of 275.5 per square mile (106.6/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 51.02% White, 47.78% African American, 0.48% Native American, 0.60% from other races, and 0.12% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.96% of the population.

There were 328 households out of which 28.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 39.6% were married couples living together, 22.9% had a female householder with no husband present, and 35.4% were non-families. 32.3% of all households were made up of individuals and 16.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.52 and the average family size was 3.19.

In the town, the population was spread out with 31.5% under the age of 18, 7.0% from 18 to 24, 21.5% from 25 to 44, 23.4% from 45 to 64, and 16.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 35 years. For every 100 females, there were 77.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 71.5 males.

Wrightsville Beach, North Carolina

Wrightsville Beach is a town in New Hanover County, North Carolina, United States. Wrightsville Beach is just east of Wilmington and is part of the Wilmington Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 2,477 at the 2010 census. The town consists of a 4 miles (6 km) long beach island, an interior island called Harbor Island, and pockets of commercial property on the mainland.

The geography of the area is composed of two islands that are separated by two different bodies of water. Bradley Creek runs between the mainland and the Hammocks (currently known as Harbor Island). The Hammocks are then separated from the beach by Banks Channel.

The first documented history of present-day Wrightsville Beach began when the Lord’s Proprietors granted land to Charles Harrison in 1725. The land grant was for 640 acres (259 ha) located north of the present day Hiede Trask Bridge that runs over the Intracoastal Waterway and was the first formal ownership of property near the beach. In the 1700 and 1800s the Hammocks were accessible by a footbridge from the mainland, but the beach itself was only accessible by boat.
